As one of
the most fun places in Westchester County, the Westchester Model Railroad Club amazes young and old, men and women alike.
Small children stare at the massive detailed engines pulling a long string of freight cars around one
of our three mainline tracks, while an Amtrack passenger train speeds by on another.
Adults marvel
at presision timing as an engine slowly moves out of the roundhouse onto the electric turntable and procedes to assemble
a long freight train in "The Yard", then slowly moves out onto the third main.
All three tracks filled
with cars to excite every viewer. Cars like SpongeBob, Patrick Star, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, as well as every possible
realistic roadname ever to hit the real full size railroads.
Many more can also be on the track in
tow behind an engine with bells, horns, talking crew chatter, and live smoke. From old steam engines to modern monsters, our
club members have them all!
Construction on the layout began
over 25 years ago with just a few members and a dream to give quality wholesome fun back to the community. Many of us have
had Lionel trains as a child. Most men started out as children bonding with their fathers while assembling either a temporary
layout around the Christmas tree or in the basement constructing memories that last a lifetime.
Well we
are those children, and now we're adults. Our goal in using and maintaining this beautiful layout is two fold. First,
this is a direct connection to great childhood memories of the past. Second, we want to continue to be a positive influence
on another generation.
Modern starter sets are fun and very reasonably priced. They have track
that just snaps together and can easily be stored back in it's own box and slipped under a bed. Not only are men
getting into playing with trains these days but there is a growing population of women who find the hobby exciting and fun.
We have one member with a pink "Girls Train" and a "Nabisco Cookie" train that she runs to excite the
kids who come to watch us during our three "Open House" weekends a year.
